Meet Girly And Curly Janee Barbre
Happy Friday ASSASSINS! Back like I never left with another Feature Friday post! This blogger right here literally touches topics on all things us women love. I’m talking EVERYTHING. . . ranging from hair, products, fashion, beauty and everything else in between! So if you love all things girly then you need to familiarize yourself with Janee Barbre! Enjoy!!
Tell us about yourself and why you started JaneeBarbre.com!
I am a 24-year-old self-convicted shopaholic and product junkie. I’m a girl and I like a lot of stuff, what can I say? I love fashion and beauty, and I love to write, so I figured blogging about my favorite things would be a great outlet for me. I have been blogging “off and on” for nearly four years now, but these last two years I have put a lot more work and effort into it. I am very proud of JaneeBarbre.com. I started it because I wanted to find a way to express myself, shed some light on my passions, and create a source for girls like me.
What type of blogger would you describe yourself as? Fashion, natural hair, lifestyle blogger etc.
I really haven’t placed myself in a category yet, but I think I’m definitely a combination of all. My blog covers, “style, beauty, and other pretty stuff.” I’ve always blogged about my personal style, so I guess you could consider that to be fashion. Recently, with a positive push from my peers, I decided to release some hair and beauty content, and I often write posts that offer inspiration, positive vibes, and encouragement. I cover it all!
Your hair is amazing! How long have you been natural?
Thank you so much! I have actually been natural all my life. Yep, since birth! I have never had a relaxer, but at one point I was applying frequent heat to my hair causing a ton of heat damage. My curls were pretty much dead. *sad face* In 2014 I decided to have my burned ends cut away, and I’ve been rocking my curly ‘fro ever since. I also used to have color, but it is all gone. For the very first time since birth, I am currently 100% all natural. I love my little fro very much. Her name is Lil’ Mama.
What are your top 3 favorite hair products?
My top 3 favorite natural hair products are, Shea Moisture’s Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie, the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner, also by Shea Moisture, and Creme of Nature’s Organ Oil Style & Shine Foaming Mousse.
Has blogging forced you to face any insecurities that you needed to overcome?
Yes, actually. I haven’t always been fond of the way I appear in photographs. I feel like I look awkward or something and I hate selfies. If you ask why, I probably couldn’t tell you. However, I am working on it and I can totally see my progress! One step at a time. Other than that, I’m pretty much all good.
As of now, what’s your favorite piece of content that you’ve written and why?
In July, I went to the Essence Festival in New Orleans with my job, and returned home feeling so moved and inspired. I wrote up a blog post about an outfit that I shot prior to going, and told a little story about having a new set of wings. I discussed how I wanted to give up on blogging and what keeps me going. So many people told me that it inspired them and that made me love the post even more. The title of it is, “Something To Brunch About.”
You’re very fashionable! What are your current fashion must haves?
Thank you so much! I love clothes and I place a huge emphasis on personal style. My current fashion must haves, include a good pair of mules, black high-waist skinny jeans, a super cute off the shoulder blouse, a shift dress, a denim jacket, and a good pair of sneakers. The Nike Cortez is always perfect!
Who are your favorite fashion brands to buy from and why?
My favorite fashion brands to buy from are Meow and Barks Boutique, Zara, H & M, Windsor, Aldo, and Target. Those are pretty much why go-to stores when I’m shopping for anything at all. Meow and Barks is the “loml” because for one, I work there, it is black owned, and the constant flow of slayage is real! Zara has forever been and will always be bae! It is pretty affordable, in my opinion, loaded with trends, and just plain perfect. I never leave Zara without spending at least $150. H & M and Windsor are one-stop shops, for the most part. I’m petite, and I never have trouble finding cute stuff in my little size. When it comes to basic tops and solid pieces, I can always count on those two stores. Aldo is also the “loml,” because they carry affordable shoes and amazing accessories. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love Target?
What do you love most about blogging so far?
What I love most about blogging is communicating and creating virtual friendships with other girls who are into the same things as I am. Nothing makes me happier than a “me too,” comment on anything I post or talk about. I’m working on building my blog up to be a source for all things pretty and girly, like me. I think as girls, we need a place to go where boys just aren’t allowed. I love networking and coming together with brilliant young women. Everyone knows that when women unite, we are more than powerful. We are a force!
Anything else that you would like for us to know?
The last thing I’d like to say is that dreams are real, and with proper work and dedication, they are also attainable. There’s a great reward in following your heart, finding your passion(s), and fulfilling your purpose.
