Style Fashion Week Review: New York

Style Fashion Week Review: New York

It has been YEARS since I’ve been able to attend a show and/or event during New York Fashion Week. Living in New Jersey and working a full time job during this time sucks! Why? Most of the shows and events I care to attend are literally during the day Monday – Friday. Every year I’ve scrolled online living vicariously through my friends and associates who were able to attend. I thought this year would be exactly the same. . . quite frankly I hadn’t even thought of it. So imagine my excitement when a great friend of mine told me that she signed us up for a few shows! The best part of it all, they were on a Saturday! YAAASSSS!!!

The event was held by Style Fashion Week, who produces global fashion events that provides a platform for top and emerging designers. This year they chose the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space museum to host their production. I have to be honest, my first thought once I heard the venue name was “huh?” I was extremely taken aback but then I remembered, THIS IS FASHION and a swanky venue is all part of the mood! Seriously, had I been out of the fashion world that long?? SMH!

When we arrived I was completely astonished; the venue was so perfect! I have to say, I plan on going back to visit the museum one day LOL! Style Fashion Week did an amazing job of transforming the space. They had an elevated, sleek runway that reminded me of marble with of course limited seating on both sides. Also, they had numerous vendors and a long red carpet to showcase their designers and models. I could tell that they took the time to really capture the use of space well.

Style Fashion Week must have some amazing PR professionals because their shows were PACKED! Although the venue was amazing, they could have really opted for a much larger space. There were people everywhere and with an hour in between shows, there was hardly anywhere to go. We attended three shows that were at 5PM, 7PM and 9PM. Once a show was over, we had to leave our seats so the crew could set up and come back 30 minutes before the next one started. This got old very quickly with tons of people around and nowhere to go. . . but outside! With that said, I found the hour went by quickly each time and at least there were no lines for the women’s restroom. (Thank goodness)

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would attend another production held by Style Fashion Week! They did an amazing job keeping us entertained and there were tons of staff onsite to keep things running smoothly. In addition, the designers and models who showcased should be extremely proud of themselves! They were all definitely motivation and inspiration to other designers who dream to debut their collections one day during NYFW. I’m so happy that I was able to attend and can’t wait for next year!
