Six Bad Habits That Can Prevent You From Becoming Successful
Happy Tuesday, my lovely ASSASSINS! I hope you all are having a productive start of the week! Today I wanted to talk about something that REALLY grinds my gears. . . and that’s making excuses. We’ve all done it and sadly I think we hear it almost everyday if not multiple times throughout. Shoot, even I have to catch myself when I’m getting ready to justify why I didn’t do something! It’s such a bad habit that we all have and it’s even worse that we’re surrounded by people who do it. So today I am adamant about getting us all to stop making excuses and just do it!
You’re Freaking Lazy
Yes, I said it! YOU ARE LAZY! Everyone wants “overnight success” for doing nothing and guess what? There’s no such thing! If you’re the chosen few to obtain it, your “success” will last just how fast you got it. I shouldn’t have to be writing this because I’m sure we’ve all read, listened or watched some inspirational successful person whose told you that all good things require time and work. Time equaling patience (key word: patience) and work equaling consistency (key word: You guessed it! Consistency). So it baffles me how a majority of us think we can be successful without putting in the work, all while being patient. For example, you only post on your blog once a month but wonder why it hasn’t taken off yet. Hmm. . . I wonder why! Sounds like no passion to me, which brings me to my next point.
You Aren’t Passionate About Your “Goals”
Stop pursuing something that you don’t really love to do! You all know I’m a designer that’s working towards launching my intimates collection. I took sewing classes in high school and all throughout college. Once I graduated college, I started sewing custom pieces for family members and friends. Do you know what that experience taught me? I don’t like to sew around the clock. Matter of fact, I hate sewing if it’s anything more than a hobby! Do you know what I love doing though? Designing, researching and writing! I can design, research and write my freaking butt off. The great thing about all of this is. . . I LOVE DOING THEM ALL! None of it is considered work for me and that’s what most of you are missing. Make what you love doing a business venture, so you’ll never feel like you’re actually working.
Your Skill Sets Suck
If you have no desire to invest and enhance your required skill set, then stop! A lot of us aren’t good at some of the things we’re trying to make a business out of. Even worse, most people will not take the time to invest in themselves on enhancing that skill. I will never understand why a person who hates to read and write will start a blog; sorry not sorry! How can you get better at creating content if you don’t write and post it consistently? I don’t like technical web related stuff (see, I barely know what to call it) and although I’ve tried to learn, I’m just not good at it! So what do I do? I outsource all of that technical crap and leave the easy part for me. I’ve accepted the fact that I CAN learn it, I just DON’T CARE to learn! Please stop trying to force yourself to like something. . . it’s just a waste of time.

You Have Horrible Time Management Skills & Don’t Care
I’m not the best with being on time and prompt. . . even to my 9-5. BUT I always publish my two posts at 8AM during the week though! *sips tea* PEOPLE MAKE TIME FOR WHAT THEY WANT TO! I’m so tired of hearing people say they don’t have time because of x, y and z. No, you just don’t care enough to MAKE TIME for it. There’s been numerous amount of days where I’ve stayed up late into the night researching manufacturers for my intimates line. The best thing anyone can learn is, get in where you fit in. Any open time slot I see I fill it with something business related. Why? Because your girl is busy and I like to relax every now and again! Stop using your job, school work, kids, relative, dog or whatever else y’all can think of to not work.
You Don’t Know How to Overcome “NO”
If you haven’t read my article Building a Fashion Empire: The Power of Being Told “NO” then you need to go read that now! Go research every successful person that you look up to and see if they didn’t have to overcome obstacles. See if they didn’t have people who wouldn’t help and doubted them. The difference between them and the people who don’t reach success is, they know the power in failure. I haven’t heard one billionaire say they hate their failures or being told no. I can relate to this myself, being told no has helped me in more ways than I can have ever imagined! It’s guided me to better routes (some of which I had to create myself) and gave me tougher skin to be able to overcome future disappointments. Embrace when you’re told no, look forward to your next failure, because that’ll only teach and help you in the long run!
You Keep Doubting Yourself
I hear it all the time from people. . . I can’t do this because blah blah blah. Meanwhile, they haven’t even tried it yet! Stop saying what you can’t do because quite frankly, NOBODY CARES! We don’t care about your issues and nobody owes you anything. Stop self doubting and get to work creating your own path. I love being an alumni from Clark Atlanta University because they always embedded this saying in our brains. “Find a way, or make one.” It’s so true for entrepreneurship, that there will be many of times where we have to create our path. How are you going to do that when you keep doubting yourself?
I know I sounded like harsh Mr. Wonderful in this post but I want to see you all succeed! It kills me to see people slack and then get discouraged wondering why things haven’t worked in their favor. Please stop making these mistakes and just put in the work! Take your time, remain patient, stay consistent and do work! Remember, if it were easy everyone would be doing it. Please make sure to subscribe and leave a comment below as your feedback REALLY helps!

Awesome post. I procrastinate a lot but I am working on it daily. I’m good as long as I know what steps I need to take and how to take them.
Thank you for reading!!
We all procrastinate.. it’s life lol. As long as you know the steps and implement them then you’re good! I find that once I start doing the task, it’s not as bad as I thought it’d be.
Please delete this personal attack ok!! jk. But in all honesty this post is SPOT ON! I had to sit one day and think how is it that I can always find to do [insert activity here] but never can find the time to write a post? Bookmarking this for whenever I get lazy. Great post!
