Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Review
Happy Wednesday, my lovely ASSASSINS! I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July holiday! I personally enjoyed my 4 day weekend with being able to get errands, work and some much needed relaxation in! *raises the roof*
Anyways, over the weekend I decided to stray from my favorite Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System and try my Mom’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Collection. I know this is late news for those of you who follow me on Instagram and Snapchat! So if you’re just now finding this out, then you need to click those links and connect with me! Don’t worry, I’ll wait while you do that! Now that we’ve gotten the important things out of the way, lets get onto the review!
Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Shampoo
The Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Shampoo is not part of the line but I figured add it to the review anyway! The first thing I noticed was it has the same consistency of my favorite Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System Shampoo however, I found that it created “suds” a lot quicker (which I liked). The scent was pleasant and smelled exactly how I expected, but a tad sweeter than actual shea butter. Needless to say, if I had to smell that scent for 30 days straight, I would be fine! LOL. The shampoo did not leave my hair hard or stiff and cleansed/cleaned my scalp as it should’ve. I didn’t feel like my hair was stripped or would be difficult to manage during detangling time. My final thought for the shampoo is, I’d buy it without a second thought!
Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Treatment Masque
Now this is where the most critical part comes in because I NEED a deep conditioner that has slip and makes my hair soft. I’m happy to say that I did not have to fight my hair with the detangling brush while using this masque! When I took the top off my first reactions were, “wow it’s brown, looks thick and I wonder what it smells like.” Well I’m here to say that yes, this treatment masque is thick (which is what my hair likes personally) and it surprisingly smells like the Raw Shea Butter shampoo! Given the thickness of its consistency, I still found that I needed my usual amount; which is A LOT! However, keep in mind that my hair is thick and requires a lot of product as is anyways. The slip was good and I didn’t need to work any harder than I usually do when using my 10-in-1. It was truly effortless with the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Treatment Masque! What I look for the most with deep conditioners is that they provide value by softening up my hair, and that’s exactly what this product did. I sat under the steamer for 30 minutes and rinsed it out with cool water. My hair was left feeling moisturized, extremely soft and rejuvenated. I would definitely buy this masque and recommend it to all my naturalistas with type 4 hair.
Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner
At first glance, this leave in appeared to be thick in consistency but I was completely wrong. It’s actually very light, somewhat watery but also extremely moisturizing (I just summed up this leave in all in one sentence LOL). The best part to note regarding this product is that it mixed well with my Camille Rose Almond Jai twisting butter and shea butter oil mix. Oftentimes, I have to be careful with what leave ins I choose. This is because they can leave a white residue on my hair when mixed with certain stylers and oils. I can safely say that this product is light enough to mix with most products of your choice. As for scent, it smells like the shampoo and masque but very faint in comparison. Would I buy the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner again? Sure, why not! It moisturized my hair and didn’t leave a white residue. . . that’s all I ask for!
Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Edge Treatment
I applied the Strenghen, Grow & Restore Edge Treatment along my hairline while it was still damp. The consistency is gel-like but once smoothed in feels like an oil. It didn’t lay down my edges but I wasn’t using it for that matter anyway. I didn’t take out my hair for two days however, when I did I noticed the “film” along the perimeter of my hairline. It felt exactly how I described, like a film or residue that was left behind. For me personally, I did not care for this as I like to rub oils every other day onto my edges and scalp. The “film” made me feel like I shouldn’t mess with my hairline or add anything additional to it. Just to clarify though, my hairline did not feel hard or unmanageable! Would I buy this? No, this product is simply not for me but may work well for others.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Collection! This line definitely gets a full five stars in my book. It’s hard to find things that work well with my thick 4 type hair. So when I find something good, I have to let you all know and give praise where it’s due! Have you tried this collection or know of another one I should try? Let me know your opinions in the comments!
Until next time ASSASSINS. . . Stay Motivated!

Hi Miss Ashley.
I’ve used the Jamaican Black Castor Oil line for three weeks now, on my relaxed hair, and it works great. I thought it would leave my hair too soft, but it didn’t and I love it. I’m trying to find out if they have a lite oil I can use or a sheen spray if anyone knows holla!
It’s great that this line works well for both relaxed and natural hair! I believe they have a spray but with one of their other collections; I’ll do some research to see!
