Contributed Post
Whilst it’s known that the best way to learn a language – irrespective of your learning style is to simply be immersing yourself in the language on a daily basis. So the best way for full immersion to occur, is by living in the country of the language you’re trying to learn. However, it’s not always going to be possible to do this.
It’s also not going to be something that everyone learns out of necessity. So if you’re looking to learn something like French because you’ve always thought it would be a good thing to tick off your bucket list, yet you have no plans to move to France anytime soon, then hopefully this post will be able to help you with some useful tips for learning a language in a way that’s fun and easy for you based on your learning style.
Take Classes
No matter where you live in the world, there are going to be places like community colleges, community centers, and if not in-person classes, then definitely online classes where you can learn a language. Most of the time these classes are pretty affordable and can be taken around your other commitments such as work. So if you’re looking to learn a new language, then this is definitely one of the best ways to make a start towards picking up some of the basics.
Use Audio
If the classroom environment isn’t something that you feel will work for you, then you can use things like audio books, books on tape, and even podcasts. If you want to use things like audio books, then you can either buy these from places like Amazon, or you can even rent them from your local library. The other option is to use things like YouTube where you can actually find full audio books completely free. This could be a great place to pick up some things to listen to in the car on the way to work.
Watch TV
You would be surprised by how many people in foreign countries actually learn to speak English simply through watching TV shows in English that have their native language subtitles underneath. It can be an amazingly effective and fun way to learn a language and it can help you pick things up really quickly. If you’re able to find shows online in different languages, then look for these and spend an hour or so in your free time watching them. Again, YouTube can be a good resource for this.

Read Books
Reading books in another language and using things like a translation app or dictionary can be a great way to learn a language. If you’re just reading textbooks then it may not be as quick as other methods, but it’s definitely an effective way of learning. Plus, you’ll also find that reading things like recipe books or a book that pertains to a hobby of yours will really help a great deal.
Join a Speaking Group
Another great and extremely fun way to learn a new language is by practicing with others who are either learning or who are natives of that language. You can look for language exchange groups in your town or city on places like MeetUp, where you get together once a week or so to practice your language skills. You’ll be surprised how simply getting together for a drink or enjoying a hobby together and talking can enhance your new skill.
