Four Surefire Signs That it’s Time for a Career Change
If you’re an ASSASSIN VIP, then you know that recently I made a career change on a whim. Now that my time is slowly coming to an end at my current company, I’m noticing signs that I should’ve left awhile ago. I didn’t hate my job or died inside every time I walked in the building, but there were other signs that it was time for me to leave. So here’s some of the things I noticed. . . and if you’re feeling the same, then it might be your time to move on as well!
You’re Bored
Man. . . I was so bored at my job because none of the tasks challenged me anymore. It was the same repetitive things everyday and possibly a fire to put out (which I’m skilled in too). So I’d go to work and fly through my tasks because I knew it all already! For some people, this is amazing and they love the repetitiveness of life. I personally, need to be challenged and using my brain! I can’t afford not to continuously build up my skills and abilities.
You Feel Stagnant
In the beginning, I had this entire plan that I’d work my way up through the company! Until one day that plan was drastically thrown out the window. I felt like there was little to no room for me to move on to another challenging position. Some people are cool with sticking it out and hoping to get that promotion. . . I’m not.

Lost of Interest & Excitement
I completely lost interest in the company’s mission and the thought of transitioning to a higher level position, didn’t excite me. This is so big because eventually I could’ve began to hate my job. Once you lose interest with what the company does, it’s time to figure out your passion and what makes you happy!
You Fantasize Working Elsewhere
In my weekly email, I mentioned how my top goal for this year was to quit my job and run my businesses full-time. There’s a lot to that story but to stay with the point. . . I saw myself working for me and no one else. It was (and still is) a goal of mine to not be sitting at a cubicle making someone else’s dreams a reality. Until my dream is a full reality, I know I’ll continue to fantasize about working for myself full-time!
These are a few of the signs that stood out for me! Some major signs would be if you don’t feel appreciated, have to work a lot of overtime, don’t get along with your coworkers, feel emotionally drained, no trust with your boss and just not caring about your job. I hope this was helpful and opens your eyes on whether it’s time for a career change! We all deserve to be happy at a place where we spend a majority of our time/lives. Remember to never settle and know that there’s a position perfect for you! Have you made a career change? Or considering one? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to subscribe!

Totally agree! But I will have friends coming to me to tell me what is holding them back. Financial security, the fear of loss etc. Any advice for these people?
They need to figure out what makes them happy then find a position that can fill that void. Additionally, I wouldn’t quit a job without having another one confirmed first. By doing that they can possibly make their fears of financial security and fear of loss a reality.
T’was last year when I decided to leave office work and concentrate on my work online and at the same time, a housemom with my 2 kids. Maybe hard to start, but definitely a good change.
These are some great tips and signs to keep in mind when to change the career. I do believe that it is good to push yourself out from the comfort zone and do something that excites you and interests you.
Loss of interest is definitely a sure sign…i am also in a corporate job but it is not as bad as needing a career change..However i do want to shift for better career prospects!
I guess everyone feels dissatisfied or even bored in their job at times and you’re right, it’s when these feelings of dissatisfaction, not being appreciated etc. jump to the fore and we recognise that it’s time for a change. This is exactly what I did – I have been working for myself for several years now and loving every minute of it!
Congratulations to you for taking the jump into working for yourself! That is a huge accomplishment and I can only hope that the people who read this make a similar decision like you did to bring positive change to their lives.
I felt all of those things before I quit my jobs. I only kept one of several positions, which allows me to work from home and fulfill my desire to travel while building my blog and figuring out what I really want from life and a career. <3
That position sounds absolutely amazing! How can I apply? LOL!!! Love that you have the ability to bring in a steady income while fulfilling your goals… it’s a win win!

This is a great post. While most people start a career and never change, I believe there are times when it is ok and good to change ones career path.

Thank you! I agree with you completely!
You raised some really interesting points in this post, I think most people go through this feeling at some time in their life and this post will really help those people out. You provided some really great tips.
Thank you! I hope it resonates with the people who are currently dealing with it.
This is great to reach out to more people who work for the sake of working. It is kind of a door bell for them to ring in their head and wake them up. Hey, it is time to think about it and plan to make a next move.
Love your doorbell reference because that’s exactly what it is lol. Sometimes we need the nudge to think if we’re holding ourselves back for the sake of our own comfort.

I changed careers when I went from working as a bank teller to being a full time stay at home mom! It isn’t totally unheard of but it was still a big move and I am so happy every day that I did it and was able to do it thanks to the support of my wonderful husband!!
That is a HUGE move! I can imagine that it’s like night and day… also maybe some anxiety with relying on one income etc. You’re awesome for stepping outside of your comfort zone! I’m so glad to hear that you’re enjoying it and kudos to your husband for his support!!
Thank you for sharing your story and reading!
These are all spot on. I think the writing is on the wall if a person feels any of the 4 and also doesn’t feel there is going to be support to improve any of them.
Right! It seems like common sense but sometimes we stay because due to feeling comfortable.

I’m so glad you made this blog post, I’m exactly in this situation. Reading your article was like another sign for me that I need change. Sadly I’m one of these persons who are afraid of change, but its important to see the signs.
Yesss… take it as a sign to get out and move onto better! Lol. Being afraid of change is a valid emotion that we all have though. Just have to know that you’re making the best decision for yourself and your growth! Plus… who doesn’t like monetary raises? Lol!
Thank you for sharing your insight!
Girl, I’m with you! I enjoy being involved in activities and work that stimulates my mind. Once something becomes repetitive or too redundant I’m out! I don’t want to stifle my creativity and flow. This was a good post. Thanks for sharing these suggestions!
You’re absolutely right! Getting too comfortable doing the same thing everyday does nothing but stifle creativity and flow. How can growth continue when the challenge isn’t there anymore?
Loved your point! Thank you for reading!
