Confidence is a weird one, isn’t it? The ability to back our own skills and knowledge whilst not worrying too much about how others perceive us and our projects.

As little ones, our brains aren’t exactly developed enough to realize what’s going on around us, so we don’t really care about the silly stuff that we say or do. We then grow a little more and start to either thrive or become more withdrawn based on our experiences and surroundings. If you’re lucky enough to be a very confident character, you’ll probably have the luxury of going through life more positively and getting things done. Whereas if you’re a little short of confidence in yourself, your timid side will take over and you’ll more than likely duck out of a lot of opportunities and experiences – and that sucks.

Self-confidence doesn’t just arrive within you with the flick of a switch, but there are some things you can do to build it up. Let’s talk about a few of them.

Talk To Your Close Ones

Opening up to your family and friends can make a big difference in the way you feel and can shift a huge weight off of your shoulders. Letting them in on what might be holding you back will be beneficial as they can let you know about things you perhaps have never thought about. Generally being more social builds confidence, too.

Talk To A Professional

If you want to take things a step further, you can solicit the help of someone who has a lot of knowledge about how the mind works. Getting the advice, wisdom, and science from someone who has spent years and years with people like yourself would no doubt fix things at least a little bit. They could be the key that unlocks your brain and sets you free.

Tweak Your Appearance

Pretty much everyone on the planet has, at one time or another, cared about the way they look. It’s completely natural to want to be more attractive or change things up. If you feel you’re not looking as good as you’d like, it can have adverse effects on your happiness, self-confidence, and well being. You may have seen a few photos of a person’s makeover and gotten jealous. Or you might watch an eyelid surgery video and think that’s for you. Maybe you’ve decided to get your teeth corrected because you don’t like the way they are. There’s nothing wrong with wanting that improvement. Beauty in is the eye of the beholder and if you want that confidence boost, go for it!

Find A Passion

Finding something that you love and practicing away at it can build your esteem largely. Imagine the idea of having something that you enjoy and being brilliant at it after working on it for weeks, months or years. It would give you a sense of purpose. Something that drags people down is the feeling of having nothing to do and being a pointless individual. A passion for something could change everything.

Eat Healthier

Similarly, the food you put into your body can affect you in a few ways. We’ve mentioned a few times about the way you look, and obviously, food and drink add to it. Eating junk food a lot will make you unfit and will make you feel sluggish (and that can’t help your mindset). Drinking a lot of water will help too, as it’ll give you a boost and make you feel less moody. Dehydration is a big part of a negative and miserable attitude.

Exercise More

Being more active makes you feel better about yourself for a bunch of reasons. Your body becomes healthier, so you can be more confident about your figure and physique. The endorphin release after a workout is a strange boost of positivity and happiness. If you don’t know what to do or where to start, there are millions of easy workout routines around that you could try.

Set Small Goals

Setting small goals every day, every other day or every week can increase your self-confidence by making yourself feel like you’ve achieved things. They may sound insignificant at first, but completing challenges gives you a lift and motivates you to do more… which can lead to bigger goals.

Do Things For Others

Finally, we’ll mention the fact that helping others achieve things makes you feel a lot better. Doing good and making others feel better, in turn, makes you feel good. It also makes you feel more competent in doing tasks if you’re not the most self-assured.
