10 Memorable Quotes From Gary Vaynerchuck’s Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook

Memorable Quotes From Gary Vaynerchuck's Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook

Happy Tuesday, ASSASSINS! I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! If you’re looking to improve your social media marketing skills, then this post is for you! Gary Vaynerchuk’s book Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World will change your perspective on how you market and sell to your target audience. He has a no nonsense writing style which is exactly what us small business owners need.

The book talks about providing value to others before asking them to purchase your product or service. Gary focuses on, “give, give, give, ask.” Hence the title, Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook. It also has many examples of how companies successfully or unsuccessfully used social media as tools. The platforms include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. Gary uses the examples to teach what works and what doesn’t in each platform. After reading the book, these ten quotes stood out to me.

  1. “Jabs are the lightweight pieces of content that benefit your customers by making them laugh, snicker, ponder, play a game, feel appreciated, or escape; right hooks are calls to action that benefit your businesses.”
  2. “If you’re in business, first and foremost, you have to be nice. Show your customers that you care.”
  3. “Great marketing is all about telling your story in such a way that it compels people to buy what you are selling.”
  4. “Your story needs to move people’s spirits and build their goodwill, so that when you finally do ask them to buy from you, they feel like you’ve given them so much it would be almost rude to refuse.”
  5. “On Facebook, the definition of great content is not the content that makes the most sales, but the content that people most want to share with others.”
  6. “Creating content that allows us to share our experiences, thoughts, and ideas in real time is becoming an intrinsic part of life in the twenty-first century.”
  7. “The skill sets it takes to be a successful entrepreneur, a successful marketer, or a relevant celebrity is a different skill set than you needed ten years ago, even though that was the skill set that mattered for decades.”
  8. “It took thirty-eight years before 50 million people gained access to radios. It took television thirteen years to earn an audience that size. It took Instagram a year and a half.”
  9. “A story is at its best when it’s not intrusive, when it brings value to a platform’s consumers, and when it fits in as a natural step along the customer’s path to making a purchase.”
  10. “Use every customer point of contact to weave stories about who you are and what your brand stands for.”

Gary’s objective is for us to understand that each platform has a unique formula and they all require something different. The biggest takeaway is that content quality matters and we can’t sell our customers too hard. We need to listen and provide them with as much value as possible. Once we establish a true connection with our target audience, then we can ask them for the sale. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to all the entrepreneurs out there! Hopefully this post has persuaded you all to purchase his book and level up your social media marketing! If you have any social media tips, please make sure to leave me a comment and subscribe!
