Get A Dose of Fab with Zaria
Feature Friday has officially launched and I’m so excited to share the stories of phenomenal women! #GirlBosses. This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing fashionista Zaria Brown! This South Carolina native launched her blog adoseoffab.com to feature her trendy, yet affordable fashion looks. I connected with Zaria on Instagram and instantly loved her vibrant fashion forward looks! I knew I needed to interview this fabulista and get the tea!
Don’t let anyone discourage you from doing what you love, and keep the faith, it’s all gonna fall into place.
Tell us about yourself and how you started blogging!
I’m 24 years old, from Gaffney, SC currently pursuing my Masters in HR at the University of South Carolina. I love to laugh, read, shop (duh), and spend time with my family and friends. I started my blog a little over two years ago. People always asked where I shopped for my outfits, and I figured why not create an outlet to show my creativity for all my fellow fashion addicts or “fabulistas” as I like to call them. SN: I’m still trying to figure out this website thing lol.
What do you wish someone would’ve told you before you started adoseoffab.com?
Be CONSISTENT and invest, invest, invest! I mean you have to have a blogging schedule to not only gain readers, but keep them around. If you leave them hanging they’re gone. When I say invest, I mean in your content, write about what people are interested in without losing your individuality, and make sure your photos and posts are of good quality. P.S. be patient, everybody’s blogging journey isn’t the same, things take time and blogging’s no different.
How did you find your target audience for your blog and social media accounts?
When I first started, no one knew about my blog but my family, friends, and line sisters. So I use hashtags like it was going out of style, and I use the app “When to Post” to figure out when the most people are on social media to actually see my posts. You have to promote yourself consistently, constantly, almost be annoying, but the audience will come.
You take amazing photos! Do you ever feel awkward taking photos in public? If so, what have you done to overcome that?
Well thank you suga! At first I did, and it can be awkward when people stop to watch and even comment, BUT for the most part, people are always saying nice things. I just keep smiling and posing, and I’ll even have full blown convos with pedestrians, and if they have a dog, I invite them to get in the picture with me.
Do you have a set schedule for when you’ll post on your blog and social media accounts?
Yes, I use the “When to Post” app for the best times for social media and I usually post on my blog on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Give us the scoop. . . does your blog require you to shop a lot for clothes/accessories/products etc.?
I can’t lie, I lowkey have a shopping problem. I could probably shoot in what’s already in my closet, but I’ll randomly get online or go to the mall, and have a bag full of new pieces, but I always go to the clearance rack first. However, it’s important to show your style by mixing and matching what you already have, to me that’s where true creativity lies.
Is there a book you’ve read as an adult that you wish you could share with your younger self?
Aww man, I love to read, it’s so many great books out there. If I had to choose one, it would have to be “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae. That book is amazing and I’m currently reading it for the second time. Issa Rae showed me that it’s okay to be different from my peers because I’d eventually find my way, to fail because who doesn’t, and to accept who I am as an outgoing introvert. I was like, yes, someone gets me!
If you were given $100,000 what would you do with it?
I would pay off my student debt, and then start a non-profit to get our kids, especially young minority children reading. I’ve loved reading since I was a child, and to be able to share that with children is a beautiful thing. The best thing I could have ever done was pick up a book.
What are your top three hair products?
1. Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner-because it’s great and smells amaze balls!
2. Eco Styler Gel to define my curls and get that puff to be as neat as possible!
3. Aloe Vera Juice, and a DIY shea butter mix to keep my hair moisturized because dry hair ain’t cute!
Anything else that you would like for us to know?
If you want to blog, or whatever you have a passion for, pursue it! Yes it’s hard work, and there’s a lot of talent out there, but there’s only ONE YOU! Don’t let anyone discourage you from doing what you love, and keep the faith, it’s all gonna fall into place.
