Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Shea Butter Soap with Songyi Mushroom Review
I’m a huge fan of Shea Moisture’s hair line; my two favorites are the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Collection and Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal Collection. For my type 3 and 4 ladies, you can’t go wrong with either of those lines! Anyways, I was casually browsing through Target and saw Shea Moisture’s body collection. Instantly I was attracted to the Coconut & Hibiscus soap, due to the sweet smell of the Curl Enhancing Smoothie! So I spent my $5 and went home to try it out! According to the website, the soap is supposed to improve skin firmness and naturally smooth wrinkles. It also says that the hibiscus flower will help to maintain skin elasticity, skin tone and offer anti-aging effects. So let’s get into the review of this soap!
Price Point / How Long it Lasted
I’ve been using the soap for about 3 weeks now and that’s a long time for soap to last. To be honest, I can probably use it for another 2 weeks or so before it’s completely dissolved! I definitely feel the price for that amount of product is amazing!
Improve Skin Tone
This soap did not have any exfoliating properties that I encountered. I of course, transferred a generous amount onto my wash cloth and used that to gently cleanse/exfoliate. The soap lathers really well however, I did not notice an improvement in my skin tone (whatever that means). I assume it’s supposed to brighten my skin but it hasn’t done that for me as of yet. . . 3 weeks in.
Smooth Wrinkles & Tone
I did not use this soap on my face as I have a complete facial regimen however, there were no visible signs of smoothing or toning either.
Scent
If you’ve tried the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie, then you know how sweet and powerful the scent is. If that smell is what you’re looking for with this soap, then do not purchase it. The smell is very light and reminds me of vanilla mixed with Play Doh (not in a bad way). Not to be too alarmed with that description, it doesn’t smell bad nor lingers throughout the day.
Hibiscus Flower & Songyi Mushroom
The hibiscus flower is supposed to maintain skin elasticity, improve skin tone and offer anti aging effects. To be honest, I think the mushroom (which you can see in the soap) is there for looks. It didn’t do anything noticeably to my skin and this goes for the hibiscus flower as well. Next time, I will make sure to specifically look for the mushroom pieces and use it to cleanse my body. I’ll report back with an update!
Skin After Cleansing
Have you ever tried the soap from a hotel room and after using it your skin felt tight? Well, this soap did just the opposite as it should! Just like their shampoo, my skin felt cleansed and not entirely stripped of its moisture.
So in my honest opinion, Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Shea Butter with Songyi Mushroom is just regular soap to me! I would definitely buy again because it has a light smell, lasts long, doesn’t leave a residue and is reasonably priced. Isn’t that all we need in a soap? Lol. I don’t care for the other properties that these companies try to sell us on like “skin firmness” etc. because we have exfoliates we can use for that! When I’m purchasing soap, all I need are the basics and Shea Moisture did just that.
Until next time ASSASSINS. . . Stay Disciplined!
