The Christyle Blogger Omowunmi
Happy Friday, my lovely ASSASSINS! I hope you all had a wonderful and productive week! For today’s feature, I had the pleasure of interviewing the christyle blogger Omowunmi. She runs her Christian lifestyle blog with splashes of fashion meshed in! As you all know, I love when bloggers are able to make their religion and beliefs prominent while maintaining their passions! Enjoy!!
Tell us about yourself and why you started wunms.co.uk!
My name is Omowunmi but my close friends and family call me Wunms. I’m a British-Nigerian, 22 year old Law graduate, currently coming to the end of an unexpected “gap year”. I say unexpected because I finished university about a year ago and the natural next step would have been to get a graduate job, right? Well… it took me a whole year to land a graduate job in Finance which I’ll finally be starting next month (praise God!). The past year of jobhunting has been exhausting but very insightful. It was during this time in June 2016 that I started wunms.co.uk – my Christian lifestyle blog – because I was entering a new season in my life. I was finally done with formal education and I wanted a creative outlet to express myself, share my faith and document my growth in life. I also just love taking photos and writing truthfully lol. I blog about everything from popular culture, food, fashion & beauty, my faith, personal growth and more.
What does WUNMS stand for?
Wunms is an abbreviation of my full name, Omowunmi.
Omowunmi means “I desire a child” in Yoruba, a Nigerian language.
How’d you come up with the Christyle Blogger? It’s such a great mix/mesh on words!
Aww, thanks haha! Honestly it wasn’t something I thought about for ages or had sleepless nights over lol. I remember being in my room one day and brainstorming ideas for my blog. I narrowed my blog down to being about my lifestyle… but my lifestyle as a young Christian that ultimately strives to follow Jesus Christ. And God gave me the brainwave of The CHRISTyle Blogger… a Christian lifestyle blog.
For those of us who live in the US, can you give some insight on what it’s like living in London?
Living in London is amazing! It’s well known for being the most vibrant place in England to be and rightly so… from food to leisure, there really is a lot to do, all year round. I also love how diverse London is culturally. London is a melting pot – whether you’re black, white, blue or purple… all types of people live in London. Living in London comes at a cost though! It’s super pricey in comparison to the rest of England (although salaries are generally higher in London). So if you’re thinking of booking a holiday, you’ve been warned 😂
What’s your favorite topic to blog about and why?
My favourite topic to blog about is my perspective on love and relationships. Partly because it’s a chance to convert the sinister people out there that are convinced that love doesn’t exist or have warped ideals of love. But also because according to my blog engagement, my readers seem to really enjoy reading about that kind of stuff. I’ve been in a relationship for 4 years and we plan to get married soon by God’s grace. God is really teaching me a lot about love that I enjoy sharing with others.
I see you also have a YouTube channel! What’s your experience been like with YouTube?
Ah, YouTube! Sometimes I forget that I even have a channel (I’m not very consistent there). I started uploading videos earlier this year in March as a supplement to my blog. Some topics are easier to convey through speaking aloud rather than in writing, you know? I would say my experience so far has been positive. Can you believe I’ve never received a single “dislike” on any of my videos yet!? I’ve also made a couple of YouTube-friends who I’ve learned a lot from. I do enjoy the recording and video editing process, but to be honest I much prefer blogging – naturally I’m a writer at heart.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to face thus far with your YouTube channel?
Being consistent! I didn’t start off with a schedule in mind or a goal of how many videos I wanted to upload a month. But it bothers me that my videos are so sporadic! Going forward I should definitely create a schedule for YouTube and I’d like to post fortnightly (currently I post blog posts weekly/4 times a month).
The biggest tip you would have for anyone wanting to start a fashion blog or channel would be?
Don’t feel like you need to limit yourself. Everyone thinks you absolutely have to pick a “niche” to be successful… but actually, as long as you’re able to pinpoint and nurture a loyal audience, it shouldn’t matter what you blog about. You can be your own niche.
What’s the overall mission of your blog and YouTube channel?
The mission is twofold:
1. To add value to my audience through sharing my passions and interests.
2. To minister to my audience through sharing the word of God!
Anything else that you would like for us to know?
God loves you, yes YOU! Seriously 😊
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
1 Peter 5:7
