CEO, Actress & Wife: Kaisha Huguley

Kaisha Huguley

It’s Friday (yayyy!!!) so of course we’re back with another Feature Friday post! This week I interviewed CEO, actress, wife and everything else in between; Kaisha Huguley! Let me tell you all how appreciative I am that Kaisha found time to let me interview her. She is SUPER BUSY with her current move to NYC (you’ll read more about that below) and with running her business Kai Hugs & Company, LLC! So I am overly grateful for her taking the time to be featured here with us today!!

1. Tell us about yourself and when you knew acting was your calling!

My name is Kaisha S. Huguley and I was born/raised in Washington, DC. As a child, I always had an interest and very much enjoyed the performing arts. I started liturgical dance at the age of 6 and played trumpet throughout high school. In my adult life, I found myself missing the performing arts. Outside of church performances, I realized I had never tried my hand at theatre. During one Lenten season, I spent a great deal of time in prayer and discernment. It was from this season that I decided to go on my very first theatre audition. I’ve been in love ever since.

2. Congratulations on firing your boss and pursuing your dreams! Can you tell us what life has been like since taking that leap?

Life has been pretty surreal. I honestly have not had much time to sit back and really smell the roses since I am preparing to move to New York. Things have been really busy, however, it is truly unreal to me. I’m so blessed and fortunate to be in a position where I’m able to take a leap of faith knowing confidently and having confirmation from God that this is the right time and the right decision.

3. What advice would you give someone that wants to fire their boss?

The best advice I would give to someone who’s ready to fire his or her boss is to pray. Prayer and discernment are so key in taking a leap of faith. God’s timing is perfect and it is our job to seek His guidance to operate in His timing. When we operate outside of His timing, this is where we can begin to run into issues. Quitting your job is a huge step! Before walking away from your 9 to 5, make sure it’s the right time and you have a solid plan.

4. I know you’re moving to NYC very soon; what do you look forward to the most?

I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter with my husband. We are moving to New York so that I can study Musical Theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (which I am also very excited about). However, I think I’m most excited about my husband and I creating new life experiences and new memories that I know we will cherish for the rest of our lives. We are taking a step most people will not or are not in a position to take, so I’m looking forward to our next chapter as a young married couple.

Side note: LOVEEEEE that dress and watch!! Yasssss!!!

5. What is Kai Hugs & Company and why did you start it?

Kai Hugs & Company, LLC is an empowerment company I built to inspire others to discover and live in their purpose. The idea of Kai Hugs & Company was born just after the completion of my first one-woman show, A Legacy for our Daughters in October 2015. After this production, I knew that it was imperative for me to have a platform where I could continue to teach and empower women. After a year of exploration, study, research, and experience, I took the leap in birthing Kai Hugs & Company, LLC into the world on October 11, 2016.

6. I see you just recently hosted a Leap of Faith workshop! What did those of us who couldn’t attend miss?

The Leap of Faith Workshop was definitely one of my passion projects. I poured my heart and soul into that workshop because I really wanted to share my story (& the stories of the other panelists) with others! There is such freedom to living in your purpose and it is my goal to inspire as many as possible to want to pursue that freedom for themselves! For those that missed the workshop, they definitely missed an event that was truly inspirational, however, there’s more to come from Kai Hugs & Company. Stay tuned!

7. Salute to you for accomplishing so many amazing things career wise right now… on top of being a wife! How do you manage it all?

If I’m being honest and transparent, it is really difficult to manage so many different areas of life, however, when I began to add more on my plate, I made a decision about what my priorities were. I made a commitment to myself that I would honor God, my marriage, myself, my family and THEN my career. I am a businesswoman to my soul, but my faith, my marriage and my family are important as well.

8. Can you give us a sneak peak on your fitness destination: Operation Broadway Broad?

Absolutely! By the end of 2017, it is my goal to be able to do 10 unassisted pull-ups! I’m currently able to do 5 unassisted pull-ups! I honestly just want to be in the BEST shape of my life. A few years back, I found myself hating my body. I was miserable. I wasn’t active. Running or working out period was huge ordeal. In 2016, I decided to change that. I was tired of being miserable, so I got started and before I knew it, I lost 35 lbs. Now, fitness is a huge part of my life and I look forward to participating in more fitness related activities in my free time. I hope to be able to train and do a power lifting competition one day!

9. Name your top five favorite actors!

My top five favorite actors are: Cynthia Erivo, Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Taraji P. Henson, and Joe Morton. Can I please say six? I can’t forget about the one and only, Phylicia Rashad!

10. Anything else that you would like for us to know?

The number one thing I want anyone who follows me on social media to know is that I am a human being. Social media so often gives us the idea that the lives of others are perfect. We can sometimes find ourselves looking at someone else’s life thinking their life is perfect and they have everything all together. Well, I’m here to tell you. My life is not perfect. I do not wake up looking like the photos on my Instagram. I get upset. I’m not always motivated. Sometimes I’m grumpy. But the one thing that is consistent throughout all of that imperfection is God. Without God, I would not be where I am and it is because of Him that I’m here today. Although my social media platforms may look like I have it all together. I just have to give credit where credit is due – that’s all God.
