Aztec Indian Healing Bentonite Clay Mask Review: Is It Worth the Hype?
There’s so much hype around this Aztec Indian Healing Bentonite Clay Mask! I’ve seen people reviewing it on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and even Pinterest. All of the amazing reviews about how this clay works wonders got me urging to try! So I went to my local Harmon Face Values and picked a jar up! Here’s my first impression and overall review!
Natural Hair Review
So apparently, this clay was not only amazing for facials but for natural hair. I have kinky, coily 3c and 4a hair that shrivels up to pencil like curls. Therefore, I’m not too keen on trying new powerful products where I’m uncertain of how my hair will react. I watched tons of YouTube videos with natural hair girls trying out the product and showing their results. However, if you’re a natural girl that watches tons of YouTube reviews, then you know sometimes those videos just sell dreams! Despite my nervousness of how this clay would react with my hair, I reluctantly pushed through.
I followed the instructions per the jar, which said to mix the clay and apple cider vinegar in a glass bowl. Once the vinegar hit that clay, it looked like a Science experiment with how those bubbles started to formulate. I thought to myself, “maybe this isn’t the best idea.” but I continued to move forward! Personally, I wanted the consistency to feel and look like actual clay therefore, my finished product was pretty thick but manageable. You can make yours lighter or thicker per your personal preference.
Application
With this clay, you will need to work extremely fast as it dries pretty quickly. You should NOT touch that section of your hair until it’s thoroughly washed out. I say this because when the clay dries, it becomes really stiff where you could easily break off your hair. If you’ve ever tried a protein treatment before, this would be very similar to that!
Total application took me about 20 minutes and I let the clay sit for the entire suggested 30 minutes. At this point, I was kind of freaking out because I was too far in it now to go back and say never mind. I got back in the shower and let the water run over my hair and naturally separate itself from my strands. You have to be extremely careful with the sections that are rinsed and still have remaining clay. Surprisingly though, the clay dissolved super easy and my hair gained back its flexibility almost instantly.
First Impression
As I was rinsing out the clay, I noticed that my hair was super soft and ridiculously easy to separate/detangle. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE!!! My hair has NEVER been that simple to detangle, EVER! I was literally able to finger detangle my hair while in the shower and finish up with my tools once I got out. Typically, it takes me about an hour to completely detangle my hair; after doing the clay mask, it cut my time in half!
Additionally, my hair was super shiny and it took no extra work to make my other products absorb into my strands. The one thing I will say is, I wish I would’ve shampooed or co-washed my hair right after rinsing the clay mask out. I kept finding sections of clay that wasn’t completely out of my hair and that was extremely annoying. Nonetheless, I now know to spend more time rinsing and get within the sections really good.
Facial Review
I thought applying the mask to my hair was nerve wracking but actually, applying it to my face was worse. Now you all know that I swear by acne.org products for a super clear and bright face! However, it doesn’t hurt to apply a mask every month just to get a thorough deep cleaning.
Application
I used the same apple cider vinegar mixture and thick “clay-like” consistency as I did for my hair. Total application time was 10 minutes and the drying started to occur instantly. Once it dried, my skin started to tighten up and began pulsating. I kept the clay on for a full 30 minutes and gently used my fingers with water to rinse it off.
First Impression
Now I knew not to panic since I read the instructions and watched a lot of reviews however, I’ll repeat it here as well. You may have some redness once you completely rinse off the clay and this is completely normal! My redness lasted around 30 minutes total and wasn’t severe. I would advise that you do this mask before bed just in case you experience any minor redness as I did.
I haven’t used this clay enough to confirm whether it works wonders for me or not however, I can say it felt like I received a deep facial cleaning. The jar suggests to use the clay once a week but personally, I’ll start with once a month and slowly increase it. I’m also going to try mixing the clay with both apple cider vinegar and aloe vera gel, since they both have great properties/benefits!
Final Thoughts
I definitely witnessed this clay do amazing things with my hair, so I will be using it again once a month to keep my strands more manageable. As for my face, I’ll give you all an update once I use it for longer and incorporate the aloe vera gel! Overall, I would say the hype is real when it comes to this product and I’d definitely purchase again to make this a beauty staple! Have you used the Indian Healing Bentonite Clay Mask?
