6 Unconventional Things That I’m Grateful For

unconventional things grateful for

With Thanksgiving literally knocking on our door, (I’m so excited for the food! Lol) I thought it would only be right to make a list of unconventional things that I’m grateful for. This isn’t your typical list . . . it’s all the things that we sometimes overlook. I know most of you might not feel me on this at first, but hear me out before making your final decision!

Being told no

I spoke about this in my previous post called Building a Fashion Empire: The Power of Being Told “NO”. There are so many benefits to being told no and/or rejected. . . if you know how to pick yourself back up! Personally, it pushed me to create a lane and opportunities for myself that no one else was willing to give me. Being told no was the critical turning point for my life! I wouldn’t have started my business nor this blog. I’m entirely thankful for the people who told me “no.”

Annoying nosy coworkers

If it’s one thing I cannot stand it’s a nosy person! Even worse. . . a nosy coworker that you have to deal with 8 hours a day, for 5 days a week. Although it’s still quite difficult to deal with, I appreciate it because it’s taught me the art of how to deal. In a work setting, I can’t just say what I normally would to someone on the street. There’s different ways and techniques to kindly “check” someone that’s crossing their boundary! It’s still hard to hold my tongue, but I know this learnt experience will help me again in the future.

My research skills

I’m that girl who will go shopping for toothpaste and stand in the aisle while I quickly lookup which one is better. Lol. I can easily spend hours researching and not think of it as work! It’s helped me greatly with the early stages of my businesses and has without a doubt, educated me. Research is the key to success and I’m just so thankful that I actually love doing it!

The ability to quickly adapt and readjust

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had my mind set on something and the universe was like. . . nah. It use to be so hard for me to readjust my thoughts and adapt with the “new.” I’ve learned to accept that things happen and a majority of the time, they’ll be out of my control. So now it’s like. . . OK, this has happened and I’ll be mad for a minute or two. Then I say, “How can I resolve this as quickly and efficiently as possible?!” I implement that new plan and move on. It’s been tough because accepting change is hard but I know without a doubt it’s a gem of a skill I’ve learned.

Wasting my money

I know you’re probably like. . . why are you thankful for wasting something as valuable as money? I agree that it sounds ridiculous but to be honest, wasting money has taught me how to value and save it now. Without those times of wasting my money on stupid stuff, I wouldn’t have the discipline I do now.

Getting let down

Those people (y’all know who y’all are!) that would offer to help me and when the time came to follow through. . . I found out they were just running their mouths! Man what a let down that would be. You’d think I’d learn from the first time too, but I didn’t. Although these people sold me a dream, I have to be thankful to them. They taught me a valuable lesson that no one owes you anything! Furthermore, I’ve learned that I don’t want to owe anyone in the end, anyways. I rather get to my success on my own.

I know this list is so unconventional but I’m really thankful for each and every one of those experiences. It’s helped to mold me into the person I am today and will come in handy when I need it the most. My outlook has changed since I’ve found the light in things that we automatically look to as “bad.” What are some unconventional things that you’re thankful for? Try it out and let me know your list in the comments! I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!
