Four Easy Ways to Practice Self-Care (Millennial Edition)

easy ways to practice self-care

Practicing self-care is usually last on a busy millennial’s list (sad, but true). Especially if you work full-time and have a side business that you’re growing! Although we millennial entrepreneurs work around the clock, it’s crucial that we set aside time for self-care. We have to know when to stop working and focus on ourselves. So here’s four ways you can practice self-care quickly and easily!

Unplug from Social Media

I know, we all practically LIVE on social media networks! It’s the quickest and easiest way for us to reach our audience/customers in a click of a button. The thing is, we need to learn when enough is enough and focus on the things around us. We cannot relax our minds (and eyes for that matter) without sitting back, relaxing and unplugging for a bit! The biggest feeling most of us have with unplugging is, we’ll miss out on something. This within itself is unhealthy and horrible for our mental health! So continue to practice daily with unplugging from all things technology and just relax. . . even if it’s only for a little bit at a time.

Set Boundaries

Boundaries definitely need to be set with yourself and the people around you. In general, we should make personal oaths to ourselves that’ll better us. I personally, do not check any emails or social media within the first hour of waking up. Instead, I thank God for letting me see another day and watch something that’ll inspire/bring me joy. It’s a small change but great in the long run.

Additionally, we need to set boundaries with the people in our lives. If you have someone who only brings negativity and drama in your life, then it might be time to consider loving them from afar. What I practiced with this was, how did I feel after I spoke to this person? Was I happy, sad, angry etc.? Is this an ongoing feeling or something I feel once in a while? Take notes of the people around you and how they make you feel on a consistent basis.

Schedule “Me” Time

This is the greatest because when it’s set that’s it. . . there’s no changing it! It took me awhile to realize that not being busy working everyday is OK. I’ve missed going out with family and friends to work on my businesses instead (and that’s great!). However, there’s nothing wrong with setting aside time to spend with family, friends, acquaintances etc. Your “Me” time can be spent however you choose! Some people prefer to stay home and binge watch a show on Netflix, while others schedule an appointment for the spa! The point here is to set at least an hour for yourself and do whatever you enjoy the most!

Ask for Help

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought I could complete it all. . . to terribly fail in the end. It’s hard for some of us to ask for help (me definitely) but it’s so needed! We honestly can’t do it all on our own and as the saying goes, “it takes a village.” This saying goes so much further than just raising a child! The people around us definitely have their own ways of helping us out. You might have someone designated to call when you need advice on entrepreneurship and another person for relationship advice! This is the same when it comes to getting things done! Don’t be ashamed to ask because usually the people around you are more than happy to help. In the end, we don’t drain ourselves from being overworked.
